Ingredient In Focus: Wild Indigo
The Wonders of Wild Indigo
One of the buzziest ingredients in the world of skincare currently is Wild Indigo. A key extract in the Scentiana Reviving Face & Body Mist, Wild Indigo (otherwise known as Tephrosia Purpurea) has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic skincare to calm and protect the skin.
In the modern world, our skin is constantly bombarded by stressors. Hormonal imbalances, environmental aggressors, complicated beauty regimes, and harsh treatments can flood the skin with cortisol (the hormone that kicks in when we are stressed), leaving skin unbalanced, inflamed and out of sorts.
Studies have shown that Wild Indigo, which contains neurophroline, could well be the antidote to these cortisol spikes. This ancient ingredient has a dual action effect that reduces the visible impact of stress on the skin. Inhibiting the production of cortisol, some studies have shown that application of Neurophroline can in fact reduce the hormone in the skin by almost 70%. One study by fragrance house Givaudan even showed that it increased the release of calming neuropeptides by 163%. The result is that redness is reduced, as is inflammation, leaving skin less aggravated, brighter, smoother and more even-toned.
And the benefits of Wild Indigo don’t stop there. Packed with antioxidants, it also works to protect the skin from oxidative stress, mopping up free radicals from pollution and UV rays.
For more even, hydrated skin, spritz skin with Scentiana Reviving Face & Body Mist (which also contains the beautifully scented Rose Hydrolat) liberally throughout the day. Alternatively apply under your moisturiser to lock in its calming, soothing, skin smoothing effects.
